Vetiver Essential Oil: A Great Support for Self Awareness

So, I finally purchased my first bottle of certified pure vetiver.  Why I waited so long I don’t know.  I ordered some for my counselor, and when I brought it to her, she opened it and had me put some on, and then we proceeded with the session.  Wow, just wow.  It’s like I doused myself in truth serum, but for once unraveling the chaotic truth of my life didn’t make me anxious or leave me feeling a hot mess like it usually does.  I seemed to approach even the heaviest of stuff with a sense of peace, and a sense of I can handle all that is in front of me.  And there was this unusual sense of clarity about it all.  It is what it is, you know what I mean?

But having that experience, left me with a sense of curiosity of how Vetiver works, and a bill for my own bottle of oil.  What is this seemingly magic oil that’s produced from the root of a plant harvested in Haiti? In Daniel Macdonald’s book, Emotional Healing with Essential Oils, he calls Vetiver “the oil of centering and descent.”

You know how life pulls us in a million directions and we get stretched thin, not knowing where to focus our energies and priorities?  Vetiver is a vehicle for getting us back to where we need to be, grounded in our physical reality.  It helps us connect on a deeper level with how we truly think and feel.  A nice support as we unravel our true selves.

Macdonald says it helps support us in our self-awareness work and can help us uncover the root of an emotional issue.  It offers us relief without the avoidance.  We can truly dig down as we root ourselves in our physical reality, and seemingly from my experience, without getting overwhelmed.

With the combination of these oils and my growing relationship with the Divine being, I am better equipped than ever to move forth in the world, with a true sense of connectedness to others, and to myself, not to mention with grace, or at least not portraying the hot mess I so often do.  Oh and a good night sleep and some quiet time helps too!
